Missile Baits - Baits by John Crews

Missile Baits - Monster Fishing Tackle

Elite Series angler John Crews has started his own bait company and developed a line of soft plastic baits under the name Missile Baits. The initial offerings look really promising. He has some really cool ideas, some are takes on existing baits and others are completely new altogether. The colors are dead on and improve on some of the most effective color patterns all over the country.

Our favorite is the D-Bomb beaver style bait that will surely be a great flipping bait.

CHT Tackle Double Wacky Hook

The CHT Tackle Double Wacky Hook is a brand new light-wire, finesse hook that is intended to be used for the nail weight wacky rig technique. This technique is a big secret of anglers from the west coast and has become the go to presentation for spotted bass. The proper presentation includes a Senko, nail weight, and now the CHT Tackle Double Wacky Hook. Simply insert the nail weight into the head of the senko and thread the o-ring over the Senko with the Double Wacky Hook points facing downward. Once the o-ring is approximately 1/3 of the way up the bait it is read to fish.

The proper retrieve is similar to a shakey head, but the baits action is far different. Upon retrieval the worm with flex in the middle and walk back to the boat nose down. Spotted bass can't resist this technique. Anglers have found this technique to be most effective when using light fluorocarbon line and a spinning rod.

Check out the video featuring the hook's designer, Zack Thompson, on our product page.

Winter Time Favorites

During the Winter months anglers in most parts of the country are counting the days until spring. Organizing tackle, watching old tournaments on tv, and pitching a jig into the tin cup can get old real quick. For those anglers - we're sorry. Based in California, we at Monster Fishing Tackle get the opportunity to fish all year round. This time of the year does get cold and at times bites can be tough to come by - that said, here are some of our winter go to's.
Rago SKT Swimmer
Swimbaits can produce giants this time of year - check out the Rago Swimbaits.
Roboworm 6" Straight Tail
Sometimes you've just gotta go finesse. The Roboworm 6" Straight Tail can be used on the dropshot, shakey head, or just texas rigged.

Duh Spoon
Spoons are awesome during the winter months. Bass suspend in large groups just waiting for dying shad to fall right onto their dinner plate.
Megabass Vision 110+
Jerkbaits are always a good choice when the water temperatures drop. The new Megabass Vision 110+ is a deeper diving jerkbait with the same fish catching ability of the original vision 110.

Another key product isn't a lure its in fact the cold-weather gear. If you plan to be out in the elements why not properly suit up so you can stop the shivering and enjoy yourself. Our new Simms Pro Dry Gear is fantastic.

Great Value Spinning Reel - Daiwa Exceler

Daiwa Exceler Spinning Reel at Monster Fishing Tackle

The Daiwa Exceler is among the best values when it comes to spinning reels. Ideally, when choosing the right spinning reel you want to look for a few key features. First and foremost identify what your intended use for this reel is. If you are using it for freshwater finesse applications there is no need to exceed the 3000 spool size. The 3000 size is quite large and will hold more line then will ever be needed. We'd suggest sticking with the 2500 or 2000 - it will significantly decrease the weight of the spinning rod.

Another consideration when selection the spinning reel is the drag. The drag must be smooth when using light line because any last second surges by the bass will be easily kept under control by a good drag system. The Exceler offers that smooth drag.

Finally, some anglers prefer a higher speed spinning reel. When selecting a casting reel its of utmost importance to select the right speed, but for spinning reels its not always necessary. Some anglers prefer to have the ability to reel in the line quicker and at 5.3:1 the Exceler is among the highest speed spinning reels available.

In summation, the Daiwa Exceler is not a premium spinning reel. If money is no option and you want the best, take a look at the Daiwa Ballistic. However, if you are budget conscious and in the market for a new spinning reel that won't empty your wallet then you should consider the Daiwa Exceler as a very real option.

Megabass Vision 110 Jerkbaits

Megabass Vision 110 Jerkbaits

What is it about these things? The Vision 110 line of jerkbaits just catches fish. After really taking a good look at the bait they do have some unique characteristics that set them apart from the others. The first thing everyone notices is the detailed color patterns. The finishes are great, the detail amazing - some of the real eye-catchers are Elegy Bone, Cosmic Shad, and M TNG. Check those out!

The color patterns aren't the only reason the baits are so effective. The most common reason given by professional anglers when comparing these jerkbaits to others on the market is the unique darting action. The Megabass Vision 110 moves with an aggressive, erratic dart action when twitched. It sits just slightly nose down and truly suspends with only the slightest rise at dead pause.

Recently, Megabass has released two new versions of the original Vision 110 - The new Magnum Version, which is a larger version and the new new 110 plus one which dives up to 9ft deep. Both baits are have their time and place. The Magnum Vision is said to be an exceptionally effective bait when bass are keyed in on the larger forage fish such as trout, hitch, or gizzard shad.

The new plus one version of the Vision 110 is great for the deep, clear water reservoirs where bass tend to sit a bit deeper. Now anglers can easily reach up to 9ft of depth without modifying their jerkbait.
