Shimano Metanium Reels

Metanium Reels Now Available

Previously only available in Japan, the Shimano Metanium Reel is now stateside with upgraded features and entirely new look. An enthusiast favorite for years, the Metanium was always a challenge to come by in the United States. Many anglers were left to only dream of a day when they would have access to the same level of craftsmanship Japanese anglers had access to.

The new Shimano Metanium Reels offer a whole host of excellent features which can be viewed on our site: Monster Fishing Tackle. One aspect, however, does deserve a quick mention.

The Micro Module Gear System creates a smooth retrieve. The new gear set makes use of smaller teeth and more of them. This means that there are more contact points between the drive gear and pinion gear. The result is a more efficient gear train with less gear feel. Basically, this concept was created to reduce the amount of noise produced by the process of reeling in. The idea was to keep the angler more in harmony with nature and attune to the sounds around them. It's pretty incredible when compared to other reels and another example of how Shimano engineers take that extra step when creating quality products.

Daiwa Tatula Products:

Tatula 100 Reels:

Daiwa Tatula 100 Casting Reels are designed to meet the demands of serious bass fishermen engineered for durability and performance yet priced reasonably. When developing the Tatula Reels, Daiwa set out to capture the ultra-competitive $150 reel market. Instead of updating the appearance or renaming old models they started from scratch with the intention of first creating a reel that performed flawlessly, then worrying about the price. The Tatula has exceeded all expectations and created a buzz within the bass fishing world stirring up interest months before it even became available for purchase.
The Tatula Reel is an incredibly technically sound reel constructed of high quality components not typically found in sub $150 reels. The rigid, aluminum frame provides the perfect strength and durability to house the internal components of the reel. The strength of the material ensures the reel will never bend under pressure and maintain its integrity for years of use and abuse. The gear system is much stronger increasing the cranking power immeasurably and is facilitated by the reels oversized handle and reel grips that enable the full force of the angler to be focused in the right place. No longer are you applying pressure to fight the reel, its all against the fish. Daiwa's ultimate tournament drag system applies up to 13.2lbs of drag, quite a lot for a low profile casting reel.
While the strength and durability are undeniable, the Tatula casting reel really stands out with its smooth nature in both its reeling and casting. The reel's casting prowess can be directly contributed to Daiwa's re-design of the TWS T-Wing Casting System - their older T-wing was taken back into the lab and enhanced to increase casting distance and accuracy allowing line to flow freely from the spool. This was achieved by housing the entire system within the reel itself making it much easy to handle. Daiwa's new Air Rotation System is also a key ingredient in the reel's smoothness delivering effortless winding with a free spinning rotation of the handle. Speaking of the reel's spool, the Tatula possesses a new, wider spool that doesn't increase the reels frame size keeping it quite palmable.

Tatula Type R Reels:

Daiwa Tatula Type R Reels possess few key unique features that set it apart from the standard versions. First and foremost the Type R displays the unique red metallic accents of the spool tension knob, cast control dial and the spool itself. Additionally, the Type R logo designation rests atop the reel frame. Technically, this reel distinguishes itself with a lighter aluminum spool and helical cut-themed ported frame - reducing the weight of the reel by 10 grams - 215 grams compared to the Tatula 100's 225 grams. The Type R Tatula also offers anglers a super fast 8.1:1 gear ration boasting a 86cm line retrieve per turn. The 8 bearing system of the Type R consists of 2 corrosion resistant bearings as well.

Tatula Rods:

Daiwa Tatula Rods were designed specifically for bass fishing applications including both casting and spinning models precisely engineered to optimize the angler's use. Daiwa developed the Tatula Bass Rods with a focus on quality components, accurate rod actions and an affordable price point. Anyone familiar with Daiwa knows their rod offerings vary significantly in price from the fairly inexpensive to the ultimate enthusiast models carrying a much higher price. The Tatula series of rods is part of their revamped mid-level bass fishing offerings which also includes the Lexa and Cielo series. As is the case with their corresponding reels under the same name, the Tatula Rods deliver an incredible value for their features.
Extensive research and development went into these rods; the Daiwa team spent countless hours selecting components that harmonized with the rod blank and optimized the rod's features. While the lab tests aided in initial production, the definitive modifications and adjustments were made through real life testing by Daiwa's pro staff consisting of anglers such as Ish Monroe, Randy Howell and Andy Montgomery. These anglers used their experience to dial in the rods perfectly for their declared specifications.
The Tatula Bass Rods are designed specifically to match up with their Tatula Reels - when paired together they provide excellent rod balance and a great overall feel. Constructed from Daiwa's exclusive SVF graphite technology, the Tatula Rods are strong, sensitive and quite light in weight. The blank continues through the rods' handle increasing sensitivity and strength. A custom reel seat and machined aluminum clamp are both aesthetically brilliant and functionally sound. High quality EVA foam is utilized for the split grip handle for comfort and practicality. We carry nine models of the Daiwa Tatula Bass Rods including six casting and three spinning. Take a look at the technical specs tab for more information on each model.
