The Micro Module Gear System creates a smooth retrieve. The new gear set makes use of smaller teeth and more of them. This means that there are more contact points between the drive gear and pinion gear. The result is a more efficient gear train with less gear feel. Basically, this concept was created to reduce the amount of noise produced by the process of reeling in. The idea was to keep the angler more in harmony with nature and attune to the sounds around them. When developing the Tatula Reels, Daiwa set out to capture the ultra-competitive $150 reel market. Instead of updating the appearance or renaming old models they started from scratch with the intention of first creating a reel that performed flawlessly, then worrying about the price. The Tatula has exceeded all expectations and created a buzz within the bass fishing world stirring up interest months before it even became available for purchase.
The Tatula Reel is an incredibly technically sound reel constructed of high quality components not typically found in sub $150 reels. The rigid, aluminum frame provides the perfect strength and durability to house the internal components of the reel. The strength of the material ensures the reel will never bend under pressure and maintain its integrity for years of use and abuse. The gear system is much stronger increasing the cranking power immeasurably and is facilitated by the reels oversized handle and reel grips that enable the full force of the angler to be focused in the right place. The reel's casting prowess can be directly contributed to Daiwa's re-design of the TWS T-Wing Casting System - their older T-wing was taken back into the lab and enhanced to increase casting distance and accuracy allowing line to flow freely from the spool. This was achieved by housing the entire system within the reel itself making it much easy to handle. Daiwa's new Air Rotation System is also a key ingredient in the reel's smoothness delivering effortless winding with a free spinning rotation of the handle. Speaking of the reel's spool, the Tatula possesses a new, wider spool that doesn't increase the reels frame size keeping it quite palmable.

Tatula Type R Reels:

Daiwa Tatula Type R Reels possess few key unique features that set it apart from the standard versions. First and foremost the Type R displays the unique red metallic accents of the spool tension knob, cast control dial and the spool itself. Additionally, the Type R logo designation rests atop the reel frame. Technically, this reel distinguishes itself with a lighter aluminum spool and helical cut-themed ported frame - reducing the weight of the reel by 10 grams - 215 grams compared to the Tatula 100's 225 grams. New from D&M Custom Baits comes the Piranha Beast Swim Jig, a vibrating style lure engineered specifically for attaching soft plastic swimbaits as trailers. For years anglers have chosen to pair swimbaits with chatterbaits in order to present an erratic swimming action that bass can't resist. Anglers all over the country have enjoyed success with this combination, however, many remarked on the swimbait's restricted swimming action - while very effective, there was room for improvement.

In order to enable uninhibited swimming, D&M engineered a hinged design which incorporated the Owner Beast Swimbait hook. The resulting lure is the Piranha Beast Swim Jig - sharing all the great swimming action of the original Piranha, the Beast version is specifically for swimbaits. Not only does the lure swim more fluidly, the coil keeper on the hook also serves to keep the swimbait intact longer than threading onto a regular jig hook. The Strike King 10XD Crankbaits have revolutionized offshore fishing, offering anglers a completely new way to approach the deeper structure in excess of 25 feet. Before the introduction of the 10XD crankbait anglers had to pick their poison when targeting schools of bass offshore. While jigs and worms are highly effective, they also attract strikes from small bass, often resulting in catching numbers of cookie cutter 12" fish instead of the bigger fish in the school. The big fish simply can't get to the bait before those small fish. To target bigger fish, you could use a swimbait, but as effective as the swimmers can be, there's just no substitute for the reaction strikes crankbaits are notorious for. Now, anglers have the best of both worlds, the 10XD is basically a swimbait/crankbait hybrid - a crankbait that measures 6" and dives to 25 feet on 15lb test.

The 10XD crankbait, from Strike King, is now the go to bait for deep water bass fishing. As experiences by many anglers, once a school of bass gets fired up with a crankbait you can often catch a limit in just five casts - now, with the bigger size of the 10xd the smaller fish will likely be weeded out and the larger bass in the school are more likely to strike the bait. Marks, caught a tournament best 32-12 on the final day of the tournament to seal the victory and cement the 10XD as a major player anytime big bass are schooled up offshore.

How effective can the 10XD crankbait be? That question will soon be answered as anglers slowly learn the baits' intricacies and the season gets going. Although the post spawn period is considered the ideal time for this bait, anglers in California have already recorded back to back tournament victories using this crankbait and hope to continue that success until others catch on.
