Previously only available in Japan, the Shimano Metanium Reel is now stateside with upgraded features and entirely new look. An enthusiast favorite for years, the Metanium was always a challenge to come by in the United States. Many anglers were left to only dream of a day when they would have access to the same level of craftsmanship Japanese anglers had access to.

The new Shimano Metanium Reels offer a whole host of excellent features which can be viewed on our site: Monster Fishing Tackle. One aspect, however, does deserve a quick mention. 

The Micro Module Gear System creates a smooth retrieve. The new gear set makes use of smaller teeth and more of them. This means that there are more contact points between the drive gear and pinion gear. The result is a more efficient gear train with less gear feel. Basically, this concept was created to reduce the amount of noise produced by the process of reeling in. The idea was to keep the angler more in harmony with nature and attune to the sounds around them. It's pretty incredible when compared to other reels and another example of how Shimano engineers take that extra step when creating quality products.
